The Rewrite (Review)

The Rewrite is a romantic comedy film starring Hugh Grant as a washed-up screenwriter who begins teaching at a state university and Marisa Tomei as a single mom with whom the screenwriter finds romance. The film is directed by Marc Lawrence based on a screenplay he wrote. -Wikipedia

I have a confession to make.

I don't find Hugh Grant charming. I didn't like him in Notting Hill. The only time I enjoyed his performance was in Love Actually. But to be honest... he just doesn't do it for me. So why did I, at 11 o'clock last night, push play on this movie? Maybe because I was bored. I just needed something to watch to make me sleepy. It did make me sleepy.

Hugh Grant is his usual bumbling self with the accent and the blue eyes and the smile. He was alright, I guess. Nothing spectacular. Marissa Tomei was her usual enthralling, magnificent, beautiful self. She was spectacular.

Don't get me wrong, there was no chemistry whatsoever. The plot was expected and tried but they made do with it. At most this movie did what I wanted it to. It made me sleepy.

Rating: Half a glass of red wine
